Citizens from the countries listed below do not need a visa to enter and stay in Brazil up to 90 days. This period may be extended for up to 180 days:

Citizens from all other countries need a tourist visa to enter Brazil. This kind of visa provides coverage for attending scientific conferences, seminars, or meetings. The validity period of a tourist visa may vary form 30 to 90 days depending on your citizenship. The Federal Police in Brazil may exceptionally extend this period for up to 180 days. Note that tourist visa holders are not allowed to engage in any paid activity in Brazil, but they can get per-diem allowances.

In order to request a tourist visa, you have to contact the Brazilian Consulate nearest to your city.

American citizens should be aware that it might take more than a month to get the visa in their case. For other citizens, it should usually take a couple of weeks or less. Please check this with the nearest Consulate as soon as possible.)
